City of Play Duisburg - The inner harbor becomes a water playground and city pool!

Play. Swim. Experience the city anew.
Duisburg's inner harbor becomes a creative playground! From June 21 to July 5, 2025, the harbour basin will be transformed into an experimental water playground: floating stages, interactive artworks and temporary swimming zones will turn the water into the focal point of urban life.

Together with the architecture collective Orizzontale, the City of Play is inviting visitors to the FISU World University Games invites you to rediscover the water in the inner harbor - as a public space, as a meeting place, as a vision of the future: a pool in the middle of Duisburg's city center?

To kick things off, we're celebrating with a colorful, playful program - and we'd love for you to join us:

Relay handover by boat
Artist Frank Bölter travels along the Ruhr with his life-size origami boat - which was folded together with Mülheim residents - and docks in the inner harbor. Duisburg welcomes him at 14:00 - and opens a varied program together:

Workshops & activities

• "Offside Traps" with Sebastian Quack & Maria Saridaki: develops playful interventions for public spaces

• Table tennis with a difference! with self-made tables and bats by Markus Zimmermann

• Climate Casino: Betting on climate values - by Sebastian Quack

• PIZZA RAZZO: Become a pizza baker yourself with Studio Quack

• Interactive exhibition tour through the inner harbor

• DJ sets by Savsannah & C:Mone (E.P.I.Q.)

The City of Play accompanies the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games and turns the topic of sport into an urban playing field. After Mülheim and before Essen, Duisburg is the second stop - and we invite you to become part of the game!
