claire Lenkova – Schön böse

In the organizer's words:

In "Schön böse", the (comic) illustrator and author Claire Lenkova provides an insight into her rich universe of images, in which abysmal sausages, lovable spam bots and insidious penguins are up to mischief and men and women who are not very polished make life difficult for each other with "typically human" behavior.

Lenkova, who describes herself as a "hopeless case", lives and works in Leipzig for newspaper and book publishers and loves things that are not crude, loud or fast. In addition to picture stories, her particular strength is the entertaining realization of complex facts, such as in "Komisch, alles chemisch" by Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim (Droemer). But Lenkova, who herself makes no distinction between princes and princesses and ends up befriending the dragon anyway, also illustrates modern fairy tales such as "Die Prinzessin, die ausog, den Prinzen zu retten" by Eva Rottmann (Jacoby & Stuart) with great fervor and subtle wit. The exhibition "Schön böse" was shown in Leipzig and Berlin in 2024. She chose Hamburg because she spent happy and hardship-filled years studying there.

Her work has won several awards and has been supported by the Kulturwerk Foundation. "Unjustly", as she says. Come and see for yourself! At the opening, she will be reading unpublished texts such as "Der Doppelstockbettenverkauf" and "Nackt im Biergarten".

Viewing times for pictures in the hall and foyer: usually Mon - Fri, 11:00 - 18:00. Pictures in the hall can be viewed when it is free. You are welcome to make an appointment.
