Climate Changes Everything is an experimental theater piece about (man-made) extreme weather phenomena and climate history. The audience embarks on a performative exploration of the harbor in Cologne-Mülheim. Drama, music and projections guide the audience through several stations on the port premises, some of which are not open to the public, past ships, jetties and docks.
The exploration of the port area is also a journey through the climate history of our planet, from its beginnings to the present day, to man-made climate change. The development is exemplified by one of the greatest global natural disasters of the early modern era, the ice flood of February 1784, which destroyed large parts of Cologne and cost many lives, but is almost forgotten today. Climate Changes Everything takes up this historical event and links it to the present day, in which extreme weather phenomena can be attributed to man-made climate change. How do we humans deal with this? Do we fail or do we grow from it? What parallels are there between then and now - and what can we learn from the past?
The story of the play is based on the historical novel "Eisflut 1784" (Marco Hasenkopf, Emons Verlag) and is performed at original locations in the Mülheim harbor in Cologne.
The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger wrote about CLIMATE CHANGES EVERYTHING:
"In the early evening setting of the harbor area, a thrilling play unfolds, pointing like a portent to what threatens us in the face of today's climate change. [...] Mysterious wolf figures and an atmospheric soundtrack (music: Soho Fox), which is played to the audience wearing headphones, create an eerily romantic atmosphere in combination with the harbor area. The evening reaches its grand climax and conclusion on the grounds of THW Köln-Ost, which are otherwise not open to the public. Here, the tree-lined bank with a view of Mülheim's old town becomes a grandiose natural stage[...]."
