In the organizer's words:
Meditation invokes the subconscious. In mediation, we look from the outside, analyze, structure and try to find a solution. In music, the unconscious mixes with the conscious. Cordula Hamacher explores these approaches in her compositions. Moods, events or observations serve as sources of inspiration. The resulting compositions provide impulses and give the band the freedom to take unusual turns. Elements of tradition and modernity blend to create an individual band sound.
Cordula Hamacher studied jazz saxophone in Frankfurt and Mannheim and works as a freelance musician, theater musician and music lecturer in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and in Saarland. She curated the "HörsPort" series at PORT25 Raum für Gegenwartskunst Mannheim. She has led the big band at Saarland University since 2020. In 2024, she initiated the new concert series "Jazz am Hafen" in Saarbrücken. She has released two albums with the Cordula Hamacher Quartet, "Connected" and "Abstract Truth".
"The secret of bringing together such different components to form a coherent whole lies in the right "connection", in the musical and human connection of four very different band members, which Cordula Hamacher has gathered around her with a sure instinct. The band leader embodies the strongest connection to the hard bop tradition in this quartet. Her sonorous, warm, blues-soaked sound, which is sometimes gruff, sometimes velvety, sounds as if she went to Clifford Jordan's school of raw cordiality." Georg Spindler.
Cordula Hamacher (ts, ss, comp), Zoran Terzić (p), Thomas Stabenow (b), Jan Leipnitz (dr)
The concert is part of the Jazz Connects Festival 2025, made possible by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt/RheinMain and the Stiftung Flughafen Frankfurt/Main für die Region.
