How can co-productions between German and African partners be balanced? German producer Sophie Haikali, who lives in Namibia, invites you to an open exchange to discuss practical modalities of cooperation. Unequal power relations are often reflected in production processes. On the one hand, co-productions offer the opportunity to deal with decoloniality within the film industry. But no new impulses can arise if the cooperation partners have no organizational and creative decision-making power. The key lies in a collaboration that respects, recognizes and makes visible all perspectives. This is the only way to create new content that does not simply reproduce the same formats, stories and power relations in a different guise. This is complex and requires questioning and possibly rethinking the entire process.
