COAST ROAD. Lesung und Gespräch mit dem irischen Autor Alan Murrin (deutsch/englisch)

In the fall of 1994, a woman returns to her community years after leaving her family to start a new life as a poet and bohemienne in Dublin. Her reappearance does not go unnoticed - the inhabitants of the seaside town watch her suspiciously and strengthen the man to whom she is still married because the law does not allow divorce and who denies her contact with their children. In her desperation, she seeks help from an unhappily married housewife and mother - an encounter that not only irrevocably changes her own fate. Alan Murrin traces the social restrictions that determined the everyday lives of Irish women less than forty years ago. With psychological sensitivity, he sheds light on what still prevents women from leaving their partners today.

The talk will be held in English and read from the German translation.

Alan Murrin (*1984 in Donegal) was named "Newcomer of the Year" at the Irish Book Awards for his debut novel Coast Road 2024. He has lived in Berlin for several years and completed the prestigious Master's degree in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia.
