Cologne Jazzweek opens this year's festival edition in the Cologne Philharmonie. The sound for this evening is clearly electronic and two internationally outstanding contemporary ensembles share the stage.

The Cologne-based ensemble SALOMEA will kick things off. SALOMEA stands for a dazzling multi-genre melting pot: Music as an intense conversation, a band that takes risks, a voice as if from another universe, poignant and warm. Salomea transform every performance into an event, with a heartfelt belief in love, courage and honesty. It demands real listening and then reveals a blueprint of the music of the future.

In the second set, an outstanding artist returns to the Cologne Jazzweek festival program: Genevieve Artadi, who already wowed audiences at the 2021 festival debut as part of the Expensive Magnets formation, will perform with her own ensemble. Genevieve Artadi has earned herself an unmistakable international reputation with a unique sound, including in the duo KNOWER. With her multimedia approach, she has been shaping the international music scene for over ten years. In June 2023, her surprise album "Genevieve Forever" caused a wave of enthusiasm among her fans and broke records in the process.

The concert will be opened by a special solo act: Bassist Sam Wilkes will begin with an approx. 25-minute solo and play the transition to the five-piece ensemble around Genevieve. Wilkes, known for his outstanding playing on the electric bass, is a highlight in his own right and promises an impressive start to the second concert set.
