Cologne Jazzweek: Mette Rasmussen, Craig Taborn & Ches Smith – Weird of Mouth

The Weird Of Mouth trio is a transatlantic affair, featuring the Norwegian-based Danish saxophonist Mette Rasmussen and the two US-Americans Craig Taborn (piano) and Ches Smith (drums). For the three musicians, free improvisation is first and foremost composing in "real time" and at the speed of sound. The boundary between what has been agreed beforehand and what happens at the moment the music is created is no longer perceptible to them. For Rasmussen, Taborn and Smith, interaction is generally an anticipatory process. This is the only way to ensure that the speed is high and that action and reaction happen spontaneously as if by themselves. The result is ritualistic and almost intoxicating, highly energetic and almost explosive.
