Colorit - statt schwarz auf weiß | Farbcodes für literarische Texte

In the organizer's words:

colorit

instead of black on white.

Color codes for literary texts.

Lea Kubeneck

colorit deals with the interface between literature and visual art, analogue text and digital visualization. The interest of colorit is in color names in literary texts. They are noted chronologically and placed in the image, resulting in color tiles - colorits - that are stylistically reminiscent of Gerhard Richter's "Strips", Bridget Riley's "Stripes", but are based exclusively on the written color word in the literary reference. As this brings the color lines in the entire text into view, breaks in the narrative, chapter structures, moods and phases of the events become visible. The work-specific color code can be understood as a reduced translation and stands in contrast to the word written in black and white.

The selection of texts is based on a personal reading canon, whereby many of the works show a remarkable use of color names, so that one can also speak of a colorit canon. The curation of the literary works, the precise reading and the transfer into the graphic document are part of the colorit art and are done without the use of AI.

The exhibition will feature 16 colorits in large format.

Each colorit will be exhibited with a short accompanying text to draw the viewer's attention to particularly interesting aspects of the respective color scheme.

The colorit for Heinz Helle's novel Die Überwindung der Schwerkraft will be examined in more detail on 27 April at a reading by the author followed by a discussion.

The reading is being held in cooperation with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
