German premiere

Shahar Binyamini was the first resident choreographer at COLOURS in 2022, when he created the first steps for MORE THAN. After intensive rethinking and condensing, this nucleus gave rise to the piece NEW EARTH, which is now celebrating its German premiere at the COLOURS Festival 2025. Back then he was still considered a newcomer, but in just a few years the Israeli has since made a name for himself worldwide and is returning to Stuttgart as an internationally established artist, where people believed in him early on.

NEW EARTH seeks our innate, deep connection to the earth in every movement. Before becoming a choreographer, Binyamini studied biology; his stage is always also a laboratory where he explores the body and its contents: how much of the animal is still in us, or are we souls that have been trapped in a shell? How do feelings arise, what do they change in our bodies? With a layer of earth on the stage and the seemingly naked skin of the dancers, almost archaic images are created. Striding upright, these creatures search for dignity or twitch in sudden excitement. In between, however, they entwine to the old string or drum sounds of the Mediterranean, again and again in intense duets, in moments of the greatest closeness. As with so many Israeli choreographers, Shahar Binyamini's roots lie in the famous Batsheva Company, he is a proven Gaga expert - in a further development of this tradition, he and his dancers now seek knowledge about their own bodies.
