For years, we have been presenting the work of Maura Morales with great enthusiasm - a choreographer whose artistic development continues to fascinate us. In her latest production SHAME, together with four female dancers and a live sampling musician, she addresses the deeply rooted, often tabooed emotion of shame - made tangible through a radical, physical exploration from a female perspective.
In a society that is increasingly characterized by self-presentation, the feeling of shame is also growing. SHAME dissects this mechanism with a haunting combination of dance, acting, video and live sampling - an interplay that unfolds in an "aesthetics of suddenness".
From physical to sexual to social shame, the production creates an anatomy of shame-shock. It sheds light on silence, secrecy and judgment - the forces that feed shame - and at the same time questions the theater as a place of viewing and being viewed.
SHAME is an unsparing look at an often tabooed emotion and a physical narrative about vulnerability, visibility and the close connection between shame and gender.
