Corot bis Watteau? Französischen Zeichnungen auf der Spur

Every work of art in a museum tells a story. It is usually the stories of the motifs or artistic statements that are presented in exhibitions. In reality, however, every work has already traveled a path that brought it to the museum's collection in the first place. The exhibition follows the winding paths by which some of the highlights of French drawing art came to the Kunsthalle Bremen.
At the center of the exhibition are the object biographies of 35 selected drawings and two sketchbooks by French artists. These were examined as part of a long-term provenance research project. In particular, those drawings that came to the Kunsthalle during and shortly after the Nazi era as a result of persecution - for example, from Jewish ownership - will be critically examined.
Among the works on display are numerous master drawings by artists from the 16th to 19th centuries, such as Michel Corneille, Célène Célène and the famous painter Gilles. These include Michel Corneille, Camille Corot, Antoine Coypel, Jacques-Louis David, Eugène Delacroix, Jean-Baptiste Huet, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Amédée van Loo, Charles Joseph Natoire, Charles Parrocel, Hubert Robert, Marie-Ernestine Serret, Pierre Le Sueur, François Verdier, Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc, Simon Vouet and Antoine Watteau.
