Retired teacher Lia has promised to fulfill the last wish of her recently deceased sister: She wants to find her long-lost daughter Tekla. When she learns from neighbor Achi that Tekla may be living in Istanbul, the unlikely duo from Georgia set out to find her there. They discover an exciting city full of connections and opportunities - but finding Tekla proves difficult. Then they meet Evrim, a lawyer and activist for trans rights. As Lia and Achi make their way through the alleyways of the city, Lia feels closer to Tekla than ever...
"Istanbul is a place where you can find contrasting worlds in a very small space. One street is very religious, and if you go two streets further, you suddenly find yourself in a queer oasis. I wanted to portray this ambivalence in the film," says director Levan Akin (ALS WIR TANZTEN) about his film full of joyful and sad moments, music and dance. CROSSING is about solidarity and families (of choice), about the developments that life takes and that we ourselves also go through.
