Every year, Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Hamburg attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world who come together to set an example for acceptance, diversity and joie de vivre. Tolerance and equality for all are lived and celebrated here.

Hamburg Pride Week

Pride Week takes place around the CSD. For one week, associations, initiatives and groups from the community organize events that are as diverse as queer life in Hamburg. The events range from exhibitions and city tours to parties. A wide variety of cultural institutions, clubs and restaurants also put on a colorful program during Pride Week. Pride Week traditionally opens with the Pride Night at Kampnagel on July 27. The Pride Awards will be presented there and there will be a colorful supporting program followed by a party. The contact point for queer exchange is the Pride House in the heart of St. George. Free workshops, lectures, readings and discussions on queer topics will take place on site from July 28 - August 1.

CSD demo on August 3, 2024

The Christopher Street Day demo will take place in Hamburg on August 3. This year's motto is "5 to 12! You & me against right-wing pressure". Every year, around 250,000 people from all over Europe come to Hamburg for CSD, setting an example for acceptance, diversity and joie de vivre. From 12:00 to 16:30, just over 100 groups, cars and trucks will march from Lange Reihe (St. Georg) to Jungfernstieg (Altstadt). The Hamburg Pride board and various politicians lead the parade every year. Also included: imaginative costumes, hot beats and lots of show.

Why Pride anyway?

"Pride" stands for queer people not hiding and standing up for their rights. Love and sexual identity are diverse. The abbreviation LGBTQIA+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual (or Transgender), Queer, Intersexual and Asexual. The identities that come together under this term experience discrimination because they want to escape the traditional social concepts of heterosexuality and cisgender. Of course, there are many other sexualities that are symbolized by the "+". However, what they often have in common is a lack of understanding and discrimination from society, which is why many people find a community in the LGBTQIA+ community where they don't have to hide.
