Curator‘s View x Female Empowerment

In the organizer's words:

Our research associate Daria Dittmeyer-Hössl and Annika Landmann from ARTEAMS will take you on a tour of the exhibition In Her Hands. The show demonstrates how innovative female artists of Surrealism, which was initially dominated by men, received little attention in the art history of the 20th century and have only recently been rediscovered. The presentation of three female positions in surrealist sculpture - Sonja Ferlov Mancoba, Maria Martins and Isabelle Waldberg - raises further questions: What themes do the three female artists address in their works? What paths did the sculptors take to follow their vocation at a time when other life paths were intended for women? What does being a woman mean then and now, what themes, beliefs and imprints do we go through the world with?

Together we will discover works that tell of the courage to go our own way. In an open dialog, we will question traditional role models and be inspired by courageous decisions and experiences. The works of art and their stories provide us with impulses to critically discuss and reflect on current issues.
