Performances in the Stuttgart-Ost water reservoir
As part of a cooperation between the festival CURRENT - KUNST UND URBANER RAUM and Freie Tanz- und Theaterszene Stuttgart gUG , new artistic impulses for urban space are to be set and alternative venues are to be brought into focus.
For the 3rd festival edition this year, Freie Tanz- und Theaterszene Stuttgart gUG and the CURRENT festival team will increasingly involve actors from the local independent performing arts in the festival.
From July 25 to 27, 2025, two performances from Stuttgart's independent performing arts scene will artistically explore the festival theme of 'air' on the grounds of the historic Stuttgart-Ost water reservoir.
Freie Tanz- und Theaterszene Stuttgart gUG has been organizing performances in the listed, underground halls of the historic water reservoir since 2021. The INTERVENTIONEN event has already explored the location three times (2021, 2023 and 2024) acoustically, visually, performatively and through dance, bringing it to life with installations, sound and performances.
The cooperation aims to make the 6,000 square meter halls of the water reservoir accessible to the public once again and showcase the interdisciplinary work of Stuttgart's creative and vibrant independent scene.
PROGRAMME
With El último respiro (The Last Breath) , the Citizen.Kane.Kollektiv is showing a performance about the Mallorcan documentary filmmaker and environmental activist Fernando Garfella Palmer, who loves the Mediterranean - and leaves his life there. Together with actress Maite Román from Palma de Mallorca, the collective develops a collage of narrative, movement and immersion in the sea of columns of the water reservoir.
In Exspiration,Donya Ahmadifar, Bobby Sayyar, Jens Kuhlmann and Nam Nguyen The present an interdisciplinary performance that combines dance, sound, language and light. The four artists explore the meaning of air as a source of life and a mirror of our inner self. As body, breath and voice merge, layers and masks fall away, revealing hidden emotions.
