Every day, all day long, we are flooded with images. Some only touch us briefly, others burn themselves into our memory. Whether it's an advertisement on TV, a poster on the street or a print on your T-shirt, these images convey messages to us or help us formulate our own. In this workshop we will use different types of images to create our own message.

Throughout history, it has been shown that the medium of collage has seen a resurgence during difficult times. Movements such as Cubism, Surrealism and Dadaism, which used a collage-like style, all flourished in times of war and destruction. The Dadaists used magazines and books to break social norms, transforming them into radical images to express their disgust with war and life in general. Instead of art, they created anti-art. Later, in the Pop Art movement, many artists used collage to try to define the fine line between mass and high culture. They integrated images from advertising, television and consumer culture into their works. Collage is an excellent means of expressing strong messages or emotions, especially because it tears apart and distorts a certain image of reality. In this workshop we will talk about why collage is such an important medium, especially today when everything around us is changing so fast.

After a "tour" of Lula's solo exhibition "Search and Destroy" in Room404, we will dive into the history of collage before diving into the collage action! Over the course of two days, we will reflect on the current issues of the media around us and work on this theme in the form of collages, using different materials and techniques. Tools and collage materials will be provided, but please bring books or magazines whose themes you would like to work on or share.
