In the organizer's words:

DANCE DATES is a "dating platform" for contemporary dance pieces. Two dance pieces meet in this series: A Freiburg revival and a supra-regional production meet!

Both pieces will be shown on one evening. If you want, you can see them with a combined ticket one right after the other - or choose just one. In this way, an evening of dance can become a mini-festival.

Thanks to the Freiburg DANCE DATES, exciting choreographers from other regions or countries regularly come to Freiburg. At the same time, Freiburg productions can present themselves nationally.

At the same time, a growing network is created - between cities, across borders, through dance.

In the seventh edition of the Freiburg DANCE DATES, the Berlin guest performance Warrior (Anne-Mareike Hess/ utopic productions) will be shown alongside the Freiburg production The Presence of the Butterflies (Belinda Winkelmann/ Raúl Martínez). Both pieces in this DANCE DATE deal with transformation and questions of being and becoming in systems characterized by discrimination.

Warrior:
Seduced by the belief that a strong man is all we need to get things done and save the world, choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess takes us on a warrior's journey in her solo. In a distorted yet gentle soundscape, a deeply poetic image of human fragility and inner turmoil emerges. A dancing body caught in a constant battle of emotions.

Her debut solo Warrior premiered in late 2018 and is the first in a series of works, followed by Dreamer (2021) and Weaver (2023), which explores female identity mythology and popular culture. The piece is an act of resistance and draws its energy from within the choreographer, exposing and questioning the world we live in. Through the metamorphosis of the body and the evocative power of the warrior:inside figure, Anne-Mareike Hess celebrates femininity in relation to strength.
