dance dates # 7 I The presence of butterflies

In the organizer's words:

DANCE DATES is a "dating platform" for contemporary dance pieces. Two dance pieces meet in this series: A Freiburg revival and a supra-regional production meet!

Both pieces will be shown on one evening. If you want, you can see them with a combined ticket one right after the other - or choose just one. In this way, an evening of dance can become a mini-festival.

Thanks to the Freiburg DANCE DATES, exciting choreographers from other regions or countries regularly come to Freiburg. At the same time, Freiburg productions can present themselves nationally.

At the same time, a growing network is created - between cities, across borders, through dance.

In the seventh edition of the Freiburg DANCE DATES, the Berlin guest performance Warrior (Anne-Mareike Hess/ utopic productions) will be shown alongside the Freiburg production The Presence of the Butterflies (Belinda Winkelmann/ Raúl Martínez). Both pieces in this DANCE DATE deal with transformation and questions of being and becoming in systems characterized by discrimination.

Like a caterpillar that dissolves its entire being during metamorphosis to become a butterfly, the dancer Raúl Martínez (El Salvador) embodies a transformation in his solo that affects us all. It is about the light and shadow of the past, the transience of our present and a vibrant future.

The Presence of the Butterflies is a dance journey through the artist's biography, linked to aspects of Latin American history. A reminder of the indigenous ancestors who lived in harmony with nature. But also a reminder of the conquests and colonialism. The dance solo is about anger at the exploitation of this continent, the potential of forgiveness and tells of a vision of the coexistence of life. It is a journey that accommodates many people, tells many stories and dreams many dreams.
