Turn of the year 2017/18, USA - in two different places in the state of Texas, two women tell their stories: Achen, a trained nurse who came to the USA from Uganda fifteen years ago for a university seminar on women's health and stayed, and Kat, then an intern on the seminar's organizing team. Many years later, their lives cross again - a fateful reunion. Because the (first) Trump administration's "zero tolerance policy" towards immigrants is having a devastating effect.

Asiimwe Deborah Kawe, playwright, theater maker and co-director of the Kampala International Theatre Festival (KITF), Uganda, tells the story of the life's work of an undocumented immigrant in her play. Like so many others, the nurse Achen, the author's main character, contributes with her labor and as a taxpayer to the prosperity of a country that has decided to expel her overnight.

The world premiere production of "Das Gelobte Land" at the Residenztheater is the first time a work by Hungarian director Jakab Tarnóczi has been staged in Munich. Tarnóczi is in-house director and part of the artistic management team at the renowned Katona József Theatre, Budapest.

"The Promised Land" was created as part of the author's residency of several months in the WELT/BÜHNE program, a platform for international contemporary drama.
