Das NEINhorn

In the organizer's words:

The unicorn family in the heart forest is getting a new addition! And it's just as cute as the heart forest itself: Clouds made of candy floss, flowers as big as trees, stones made of plush and the sun shines every day. A little too sweet for the little unicorn, because it says no to everything. No to swimming in the bubble lake. No to the rainbow slide. No to the sugared clover. His family don't know what to do and call him NO unicorn from now on. One sunny day, NEINhorn decides that he has had enough of all the strenuous fiddling around and sets off for Nowhere. On the way, he meets the WASbär, who doesn't listen properly, the NAhUND, who can't be fazed by anything, and a royal DOCHter, who constantly talks back. Not even the NEINhorn says no to these new friendships, because he can be stubborn with them - and that's much more fun than alone!

Composer Michael Essl and librettist Pamela Dürr conjure up an equally witty and cheeky opera from Marc-Uwe Kling's book about self-discovery and trial and error in the childhood autonomy phase, which illuminates the wonderful facets of saying no.
