Everything but the classical string quartet - this concert brings together different string combinations. Ysaÿe's string trio captivates with its highly expressive polyphony, while in Rossini's string sonata the double bass takes the place of the cello. Giving the string quartet an additional bass foundation was what Dvořák had in mind for his string quintet. He thus created a kind of solo string symphony, which even won first prize in a Prague chamber music competition.
