Das vierte Treffen

World premiere by Ralf N. Höhfeld - live radio play

It is their fourth meeting and The Man and The Woman seem to be a perfect couple. They count the days, hours and minutes that have passed since they last saw each other: "Five days, two hours, six minutes". They talk about their fears: "What was it today? The black dog? The climate?". They don't communicate digitally, but write down what they want to say to each other the next time they meet: "Monday. I wake up and think of you.". But what actually happens in our heart, brain and stomach when we are in love? Neuroscience has been studying this topic for 20 years and can now prove which hormones are necessary and which areas of the brain are involved in creating a lifelong bond between two individuals. So will we soon be able to control all our emotions using chemical tools and build neuronal networks that are so similar to our brains that they can not only learn but also feel?

Ralf N. Höhfeld's play was awarded a prize at the "Science & Theatre" drama competition in Heilbronn in 2023 and will be premiered as a live radio play at Theater Lübeck. Director Milan Pešl repeatedly works at the interface between radio play and theater performance. In his works, the audience is immersed in fascinating worlds of sound via headphones and yet never loses sight of the stage.
