The tenor saxophonist David Murray, a giant of modern jazz, combines everything that black music has produced: Gospel sounds, free jazz, Afro-Caribbean, blues, soul as well as the beautiful standards of classic jazz. Murray's colorful tone, his unsurpassed intonation, his sense of swing, his melancholy tones, his power of improvisation and his ingenuity make him one of the most important voices in music today.

David Murray's new quartet launched in January 2023 with week-long, sold-out shows at the Village Vanguard in New York.
The combination of Murray's mastery and the infusion of this powerful elite of the New York jazz scene is a force to be reckoned with. The ferocity of Marta Sanchez on piano, the poetry and dexterity of Luke Stewart on bass and the driving pulse of Russell Carter on drums are a perfect match for the leading saxophonist of his time.

The quartet's first album, Francesca, was released on Intakt in May 2024. For its second album, the quartet went into the studio with Verve in December 2024.
