Decolonial talk & exhibition
TCHILOLI UNMASKED
How do we understand stories told under a mask?
🇸🇹 In colonial times on the West African island of São Tomé, a performance was created that is still alive today, in which figures from the European Middle Ages fight for justice with nominally colored lawyers: the tchiloli.
What may seem like a faithful staging of the legends of Charlemagne is in fact a stage for counterhistories: stories of resistance, spirituality and the identity of a nation that had to re-form itself from the descendants of enslaved people.
What is Eurocentrism, what does epistemic violence mean and what can we learn from Frantz Fanon? Why does decolonization concern us all?
All are welcome - no prior knowledge necessary!
