Democracy needs democrats: What can schools achieve?
The demands on schools in Schleswig-Holstein and nationwide are high and are not getting any lower. However, with increasing disenchantment with democracy in society, one of the core tasks of schools is becoming even more important: democracy education. This is not just about the curriculum, but also about active participation and learning about community and a culture of democratic debate. In times of hardened fronts in both digital and analog life, these skills are becoming increasingly important in order to enable young people to participate in politics and society, to inspire enthusiasm for democracy and to make them resilient against enemies of democracy.
But how can schools contribute to this and what can they actually achieve? How can teachers and pupils be strengthened in their commitment? Do we need guidelines and if so, which ones? And: What resources do schools need to be able to implement this task?
We cordially invite you to discuss these questions with us and our guests!
