Meeting point: Counter in the Sylvia Wynter Foyer
The exhibition Musafiri: Of Travelers and Guests shows paths through the world that open up when the boundaries of the familiar environment are left behind. It presents artists whose practice constructs worlds outside the Western canon and off the beaten track.
The workshop takes a close look at maps of the world on paper and online. How do they depict the world? Neutral and objective or from very specific perspectives? These representations of the world help determine what is perceived and what is not, what is considered the center and what is considered the periphery. Critical geographers are therefore in favor of revealing the subjectivity of maps. Participants in the workshop can understand how maps reproduce power structures and dominant perspectives. They can draw on personal experiences and create and map new knowledge.
