In the organizer's words:

While the tone of most talk shows and discussion panels is shifting more and more to the right, we have made a conscious decision to talk about ideas for solutions instead of deportations. As a playing field, we stand for an open and diverse society on the one hand, and on the other, we have the task of seeking new perspectives on current issues in order to complement the discourse.

Guests: Özgür Özvatan and Karim El-Helaifi. DENKRAUM takes place in Hanover and is, as always, free of charge.

The occasion

We have been observing this for years: With almost every incident, act of terrorism or political challenge, sooner or later there is talk of deportations. Even when the problem has more to do with issues such as our healthcare system, a lack of investment or a shortage of nursing staff, people talk about deportations. Deportations of people from the same country of origin as criminals seem arbitrary and more like a band-aid to create the appearance of solutions.

We would like to invite you to a discussion that refocuses attention on dignity, human rights and, above all, effective solutions. Let's take a deep breath together and gather ideas!

We are concerned with questions such as:

• How are people with a history of migration or flight faring in light of the current debates?
• What should we invest in as a society to support them?
• Do the migration debates possibly contribute to increasing despair and the willingness to use violence?
• What can we do on a small and large scale to defend an open society and democratic values?
• Looking back 50 years from now, how will we know if we behaved correctly?

• Informal discussion afterwards
