In the organizer's words:

Vernissage January 19, 2025.
The opening of the exhibition by Ukrainian artist Anzhela Kushchyk "Art as a lifebuoy" takes place in St. Nicholas Church.
- Welcoming address by Pastor Maren Shack.
- Musical accompaniment by Oles Volynchyk.
- Communication with the artist
Paintings created in Ethiopia, Ukraine and Germany will be on display in the beautiful, modern space of the church.

Before the recent Russian invasion, the artist lived in Africa, where she worked on the project "I am in Ethiopia", and later for 10 years in Hamburg with her husband and son...

In January 2022, the artist came from Hamburg to Kiev to visit her parents and daughter, and had a ticket to fly back on February 25... After February 24, she stayed in Kiev, where she began her series of works about the Russian invasion... When the Ukrainian troops liberated the Kiev region, she returned to her family in Germany.

Angela created a unique world full of joie de vivre in her vibrant African paintings and later in her black and white drawings in Kiev, which are characterized by incredible pain. Through her expressive art, you can see how the Russian war in Ukraine is destroying and draining everything. And only art, like a life preserver, helps to free oneself for a while from the constant fear.
The black and white project was awarded the "Europeans in Art" prize in the Best Art Project category in Munich in May 2022.
