Der gezeichnete Mensch – Stefan Leyh und Carsten Weitzmann

In the organizer's words:

The works of Stefan Leyh and Carsten Weitzmann focus on people - drawn, observed, interpreted.

The works of both artists deal thematically with the areas of history, memory, psychology and power relations between people. Dense, atmospheric pictorial spaces are created in psychological portraits, descriptions of conditions and abandoned scenes.

Poetry plays just as central a role as the critical questioning of gender roles and identity.

A project in which the two artists were assigned to each other developed into a close artistic connection - based on similar perspectives, overlapping content and a related approach to drawing. The extent to which the respective positions have influenced each other over the course of time remains open - this exhibition invites visitors to trace this very process.

Stefan Leyh, born in Meiningen in 1976, is a freelance artist and lives in Erfurt. After studying at the HfBK Dresden, where he graduated as a master student of Martin Honert, he has been active as an artist and lecturer for many years - including at the HfBK Dresden and the University of Erfurt. His works have been exhibited throughout Germany.

Carsten Weitzmann, born in Erfurt in 1961, has been working as a freelance painter and graphic artist since 1989. His works have been shown in numerous renowned galleries in Germany and abroad, including in Berlin, Munich, Münster, New York and Brussels. Weitzmann now lives and works in Gotha and also worked for many years as a lecturer in drawing and animated film.

The exhibition can be seen from Tuesday to Friday 12 - 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the gallery rooms and the salons of the house. The exhibition is barrier-free, information can be found here.
