The world premiere of the grand opera "Die letzten Tage der Menschheit" by Philippe Manoury, based on Karl Kraus, will take place at the Cologne Opera on June 27. In a megalomaniac drama, Kraus tells the story of the First World War, into which humanity plunges and in which it loses its humanity. On the eve of the premiere, Herfried Münkler, author of the comprehensive monograph "The Great War" on the years 1914-1918, will be a guest at the Staatenhaus. He will talk to musicologist Kai Hinrich Müller about the social conditions, framework conditions and developments of this war, which shook the world like no other before it and was fought at all levels. How does the political scientist view Karl Kraus' contemporary document and what can we learn from it for the democratic present with regard to the current wars?
