The final battle for Middle-earth is imminent as the hobbits Sam (Sean Astin) and Frodo (Elijah Wood) approach Mordor to destroy the One Ring. But it's not just the dark hosts of the evil Sauron that stand in the way of the triumph of good, the inwardly torn Gollum and a mysterious spider also have their own plans for the treasure.
While Peter Jackson, who has matured from splatter innovator to fantasy giant, is already working on the new "King Kong", moviegoers can enjoy the furioso finale of the "Rings" trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien, which has already become a classic.
The remaining members of the Fellowship of the Ring set off for the final battle for Middle-earth, while the hobbits Sam and Frodo approach Mordor to destroy the One Ring with their own hands and stop evil. But it is not only the men of the evil Sauron who prove to be an obstacle; Gollum, driven by his inner demons, also has cunning plans.
While Frodo, Sam and Gollum approach Mount Doom to destroy the Ring for good, Gandalf tries to mobilize the disheartened people of Gondor to distract Sauron from the weakened Ring-bearers. Meanwhile, Aragorn must face up to his responsibilities as heir to the throne of Gondor. The elves Arwen, Galadriel and Legolas and the hobbits Merry and Pippin also fight against the impending destruction of the peoples of Middle-earth. The final battle takes place at the gates of Gondor's capital.
