DOCUMENTARY FILM BY ANDREAS MAUS

The film tells the story of the nail bomb attack in front of a Turkish hairdressing salon in Cologne's Keupstraße on June 9, 2004, focusing on the consequences for the victims and their relatives, who were investigated for years as the main suspects. The film reconstructs the police investigation on the basis of the interrogation protocols and it becomes clear that the victims were the main possible perpetrators for the police. A xenophobic motive was largely ignored. It was only years later that the attack was attributed to the so-called National Socialist Underground (NSU).

DER KUAFÖR AUS DER KEUPSTRASSE impressively shows how profoundly the bomb attack, but also the subsequent suspicions, shook life in the Cologne district of Mülheim.

Just as in Cologne, in the other cities where the NSU committed murders, it was mostly the relatives and those close to them who were suspected. The film opens up the discussion on the issue of structural xenophobia in Germany in a new way, namely from the perspective of those affected.

This will be followed by a follow-up discussion with the "Keupstraße ist überall" initiative and those affected by the attack.
