Moscow in the 1930s: The work of a well-known writer (Yevgeny Tsyganov) is censored by the Soviet state and the premiere of his play is canceled. Inspired by his lover Margarita (Julia Snigir), he begins work on a new novel in which all the people from his real life appear in satirically exaggerated characters. The focus is on Woland (August Diehl) as a mystical, dark force who visits Moscow to take revenge on all those responsible for the author's ruin. As the Master, as he calls himself from now on, delves deeper and deeper into his story, he becomes less and less aware of the boundary between reality and fantasy ... THE MASTER AND MARGARITA by Michael Lockshin ("Silver Skates") with August Diehl as the mysterious devil figure Woland is based on the classic novel of the same name by writer Mikhail Bulgakov, who criticizes the Soviet surveillance apparatus in it. Due to its unmistakable reference to the present day, THE MASTER AND MARGARITA is perhaps one of the most courageous films ever made.
