A disaster is in the making: The theater is full, but the entire ensemble, including the set, is stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. The 856th performance of the horror shocker Der Mönch mit der Klatsche (The Monk with the Clap ) threatens to fall through and the urgently needed evening's income is lost. Only assistant director Katrin Tor and lighting technician Klaus Kongski have driven ahead in their own car and arrived on time. What to do? Not entirely voluntarily, they dare to go to extremes: after all, they have seen the performance many hundreds of times and know every sentence and every gesture. Equipped with a few costumes and sparse props, they feel their way around the characters. In no time at all, they have played themselves free, jumping from role to role in wild improvisation and conjuring up an over-the-top, crazy and fast-paced comic crime show on stage that always comes within a hair's breadth of failure. Despite the daring twists and turns, the two manage the impossible and - much to the delight of die-hard Edgar Wallace fans - resurrect the unforgotten characters from the infamous black-and-white classics. They all make an appearance: The mad murderer, the quirky butler, a damsel in distress or the lovable, somewhat scatterbrained Scotland Yard investigator.

A wonderful thriller fun with a nostalgic effect, and a fast-paced parable about the impossible tasks that life sometimes presents us with - with the inspiring actors Michaela Schaffrath and Stefan Keim, the well-known journalist, presenter and author from Hagen.
