The former Inquisitor William of Baskerville and his young adlatus Adson of Melk have actually traveled to the remote Benedictine abbey in northern Italy to prepare for a highly explosive political meeting between the allegedly heretical Franciscan faction and the papal envoys. Instead, they initially find a series of mysterious deaths. The abbot asks William, known for his razor-sharp intellect, for help. However, he and Adson soon discover that the ranks of the monastery brothers, who are anything but sinless, are facing an icy headwind. Is there really a murderer on the loose within the monastery walls? What is this mysterious book that is coveted by everyone but kept under lock and key in the labyrinthine library? What common past connects William and the merciless inquisitor Bernardo Gui? And can Adson resist the carnal temptations to which he unexpectedly finds himself exposed?

"The Name of the Rose", filmed in 1986 with Sean Connery in the leading role, made its author, the Italian linguist Umberto Eco, world-famous overnight. The Tonne presents the exciting monastery thriller in the fitting medieval ambience of the Spitalhof.
