The story of a family and a family business:
At the center of the story is the shady entrepreneur Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro), one of the richest men in Europe. Recent attacks on his life prompt him to make arrangements for his possible demise and make his daughter Liesel (Mia Threapleton) his sole heir.

She is initially irritated, as she has had no contact with her father for years and is actually in the process of becoming a nun. Eventually she agrees to accompany her father as he carries out his great life's work, the construction of "Korda Land", a huge infrastructure project in the Middle East. As a condition, however, Liesel demands that he renounce slave labor and fight famine on site. The task now is to win over a wide variety of investors while fending off attacks from terrorists and hostile governments.

In addition to the first-class cast - including Michael Cera, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks and Benedict Cumberbatch - Oscar® winner Wes Anderson was once again able to rely on proven collaborators, including co-writer Roman Coppola and Oscar®-winning composer Alexandre Desplat.

Wes Anderson's ensemble comedy celebrated its world premiere once again at the Cannes International Film Festival, where THE PHOENIC MASTER STORY competed for the Palme d'Or.
