Scenic reading with music over coffee and cake

"I was born in Thebes, even though I was born in Elberfeld in the Rhineland. I went to school until I was eleven, became a Robinson, lived in the Orient for five years and have been vegetating ever since". This is how Else Lasker-Schüler described her life at the age of fifty. She was the first female performance artist, long before Madonna. In August 1914, she was arrested four times on the street in Munich because of her appearance. In any case, she took precautions for Bavaria: She patriotically adorned her turban-crowned gown with a German flag ribbon and also acquired a sash in the royal Bavarian colors of blue and white. No wonder she was largely rejected or only half-heartedly acknowledged in her home town of Wuppertal, even to this day: a woman who campaigned for free contraceptives and free love and at the same time for the abolition of abortion paragraph 218. Sören Kirkegaard on Lasker-Schüler: "What is a poet? An unhappy person who harbors deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are shaped in such a way that, as the sigh and the cry flow out over them, they sound like beautiful music."
