Goethe meets Ruhrpott
A co-production with Schauspiel Essen
That we recognize what holds the world (more precisely: the Ruhr region with its industrial past and structural change and all the trimmings) together at its core ...
For generations, the Faust family has run the pub "Zum kernigen Pudel" in Essen-Eiberg. Now old Faust has died and Faust junior - the eternal student type - is to take over the business. However, like the Ruhr region, the pub's best days are long behind it. Hardly any customers left, but plenty of debts.
Should he close the pub, turn his back on the district and try a new start somewhere else? Or is it "also shit" somewhere else? Two souls live, ah!, in his chest.
But the eternal regular Mephis Topheles is not at all happy about the pub closing. He prefers to hold on to the good old days of the Ruhr and uses diabolical means to prevent a possible sale.
But when the beautiful Grete Gützel and Marthe Majowski enter the pub and make Faust Junior an offer he can't refuse, it's not just Henry's turn ...
Ruhrfaust", an adaptation of the original Faust from the Ruhr region, is a play between coming to terms with the past, disorientation and rosy prospects for the future.
