Based on interviews and literature research, the podcast "The Stone" explores the Rosa Winkel memorial stone and its significance for the LGBTIQ* communities. What is remembered? By whom? And in what way?
The continuity of the persecution of gay men in the FRG was a unique continuum of the Nazi era and has shaped generations of queer people and especially gay men with social stigmatization. The Rosa Winkel memorial stone commemorates the persecution during the Nazi era and stands as an example of the politicization, emancipation and success of the LGBTIQ community. At the same time, the broken original memorial stone has no permanent place in the gay-queer center "Sub" and appears there as a foreign body.
How do young, queer people today view this commemoration and the memorial stone? What is their relationship to queer history? What have we lost, what have we repressed and what have we gained?
Each episode of the podcast is dedicated to a different track and deals with the topics of persecution and extermination, perpetrators, the FRG and emancipation, today's culture of remembrance and queer-hostile violence as well as the right-wing backlash in the 21st century.
