Concert reading about persecuted composers and poets from Ukraine. Texts and music by Vasyl Barvinsky, Vasyl Stus and many others. With Olga Glibovych (violin), Yaromyr Bozhenko (piano), Emanuel Matz (cello) and Pauline Kästner (texts).

The suppression of Ukrainian culture by Russia and the Soviet Union encompasses all the arts and is a crime. Many great treasures have been destroyed, burned and forgotten forever. The artists were imprisoned, banned, murdered. Some works of art, however, miraculously survived the 350 years of repression. These testimonies to the flourishing cultural life in Ukraine will be heard and seen at this matinee. Pianist Yaromyr Bozhenko, violinist Olga Glibovych and cellist Emanuel Matz will perform works by Maksym Berezovsky, Vasyl Barvinsky, Viktor Kosenko, Mykola Lysenko and Levko Revuzkyi, among others. Actresses and actors from the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus will read texts.

The matinee will be moderated by Stefan Fischer-Fels, director of the Junges Schauspiel.

The event is being held in cooperation with the Verein zur Förderung der Städtepartnerschaft Düsseldorf-Czernowitz und Rinde Slowo e.V. and as part of the "Soundtrack zur Freiheit" event series. The organizing consortium, consisting of the above-mentioned associations, the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Haus Foundation, the Ivan Franko Museum (Lviv), the Regional Museum for the Memory of Volodymyr Iwasiuk (Chernivtsi), the Düsseldorf City Libraries, the Polish Institute Düsseldorf, the Düsseldorf contributions "Respect and Courage" and the "Tracks of Memory" project of the Jewish Community Düsseldorf, will realize more than ten events in five cities this year.
