Moonlight over the sea, waves lapping softly. The music swells, legs wriggle, you hear a gurgle, then it's terribly quiet again. The next morning, the tide washes a corpse onto the beach at Amity Island - apparently the victim of a shark attack. Two holidaymakers still have to die before the mayor, who is worried about tourist income, acts. And so marine biologist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and sea dog Quint (Robert Shaw) head out to kill the monster... Director Steven Spielberg, who was only 27 at the time, played perfectly with human fears. His shocker won three Oscars - for sound, editing and the eerily beautiful music by John Williams - and heralded the era of the blockbuster with box office takings of more than 100 million dollars.
