Officially founded in 1992 by Nicole Rellum (voc), Ralf Jesek (voc, instr) and Kai Kampmann (bass) in Karlsruhe, DERRIERE LE MIROIR (the band name was inspired by Lewis Carroll's children's book "Alice Behind the Mirrors") are a fixture of the melancholy independent scene of the 1990s. The first demo recording "Simple Blue", which appeared in 1992 on the third part of the legendary "German Mystic Sounds" series of the German Zillo magazine, made the band's soulful wave pop internationally known and songs such as "Just Like You" or "Alibis" have long since become classics.

In 1993, the trio signed with Session MusicGroup (run by Eurodance stars Masterboy) and released their debut "Alibis" in the same year, as well as the EP "Pregnant EP", which included a curious cover of Modern Talking's "You're My Heart, You're My Soul".

Concerts and several television and radio appearances followed. After the MCD "A Notion Of Light" and the second album "Deep" (with Astrid Reich as an additional singer), DERRIERE LE MIROIR, now once again a three-piece, switched to the larger label Nightshade Prod. in 1996 and went on a longer tour of Germany for the first time with their new album "Thieves & Kisses". With the compilation "Selected", the band said goodbye to Nightshade Prod. in 1998 and signed with the Cologne label Dion Fortune Records. Due to problems at the label, however, the release of the fifth CD was repeatedly delayed until the beginning of

2000, Dion Fortune Records surprisingly announced its closure, while almost simultaneously - and almost symbolically - all the recordings made to date were lost due to a hard disk crash.

Frustrated by these developments, a new album was postponed indefinitely and the band merely made contributions to various international compilations... and then played their provisional farewell concert in Chemnitz on December 14, 2002.

While Ralf remained musically active (e.g. IN MY ROSARY, now I-M-R), Nicole and Kai withdrew completely from music. It was only at the end of 2012, when they were invited by Ralf to participate as guests on the I-M-R album "Letters from the Paper Garden", that the vague idea of going back into the studio together as DERRIERE LE MIROIR emerged. And after they had also played a small surprise concert at a birthday party in 2013, it was decided without further ado

decided to record two cover versions for fun - and if time allowed...

just to try out whether the chemistry between them was still right. The results ("Lift Me Up" by Moby and "The Night" by Valerie Dore) were released as a download single by Syborgmusic in September 2014. In April 2015, they began writing new songs, which resulted in the album "In Flux" in October 2016, exactly 20 years after their last studio release.

In 2023, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album "Alibis", DERRIERE LE MIROIR returned to the stage for a few selected shows in Germany, Belgium and Spain and revived their own mix of cold- and electrowave with songs from this album.

Additional concerts were played in 2024 and the 30th anniversary of their second album "Deep" will also be celebrated with concerts in 2025...

I-M-R is the continuation of the musical idea of IN MY ROSARY, a project that was founded in 1992 and was able to establish itself as a permanent fixture in the global darkwave/alternative scene shortly after its first CD release "Those Silent Years" (1993). Initially often referred to as "dark folk pioneers" - mainly due to the fact that singer and songwriter Ralf Jesek also used acoustic guitars in his productions - the press later used the term "DarkWaveFolkPop" to describe this unique mix of dark and new wave, electro, folk and pop elements. After 19 years and 10 highly acclaimed albums, the time had come to enter a new phase. While Ralf had previously recorded all productions single-handedly, he now invited his long-standing live guest musicians Martin von Arndt, Holger Diener and Hansi Hünig into the studio in order to further develop the artistic idea together with them in the future. On October 15, 2011, this new constellation was officially launched under the name I-M-R and has been busy with releases and concerts as a band ever since.
