John Tavener (1944 - 2013): The Veil of the Temple
From sunset to sunrise, John Tavener's "The Veil of the Temple" casts a spell over the audience. The North Rhine-Westphalia Choir Association presents this extraordinary work at the Chorfest under the artistic direction of Nicolas Fink. Amateurs and professionals from various federal states will perform together on this night: 200 singers will raise their voices to 33, soloists and a small ensemble of instruments including duduk, Indian harmonium and Tibetan horn, percussionists and wind players will make this impressive work shine.
The music and text combine Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic beliefs, blurring boundaries and emphasizing what we have in common. The audience is invited to follow the musical and spiritual journey to the end of the night for eight hours.
