Dialogue instead of dogma - how we resolve social conflicts without dividing
First wokeness, cancel culture and identity politics, now despite (or because of?) a shift to the right in elections in the western world - current social debates are characterized by hard fronts. Instead of productive debate, outrage, moral isolation and ideological trench warfare prevail. But how can we talk constructively about controversial issues without alienating each other further? In his lecture, Matthias A. Narr shows how we can recognize false conclusions and prejudices on both sides and how scepticism can serve as a tool for resolving social conflicts. It is not about proclaiming "the one truth", but about providing tools for an open, critical and respectful discourse.
Matthias A. Narr has been running the YouTube channel of the same name since 2021 under the pseudonym BiasedSkeptic, which now has more than 38,000 subscribers and over 3 million video views. Arguments from the fields of philosophy, religious criticism and social criticism are examined there in terms of logical correctness, rhetorical strategies and argumentative persuasiveness. Born in 1989 in Tuttlingen. Studied German Linguistics and Literature at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg i. Br. (2013) and Advertising and Market Communication at the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart (2017). He is currently completing a Master's degree in "Philosophy in a European Context" at the University of Hagen. He has been an independent managing director of we communicaid GmbH since 2022.

HumanistSalon: Since 2013, the DA! has regularly organized the Humanist Salon on the first Wednesday of the month. This is where urban society discusses philosophical, scientific, religious-critical and ethical issues. 50 to 100 visitors regularly gather in the Salon des Amateurs (bar in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf) and online, as the salons have generally been broadcast live online since 2022. Questions submitted online by the audience are also integrated into the discussion following the lecture.
