What happens when twelve men have to decide on guilt or innocence - and bring their own prejudices, experiences and emotions into play? The play "The 12 Jurors", which premieres on July 24 at 6 pm at the Consol Theater Gelsenkirchen, gets to the bottom of this question. In addition to the premiere, there will be two further performances on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27 at 11 am.
The ensemble of the Bochum chapter of Generation Zukunft e.V. is once again putting on an impressive theater project this summer. In just a few weeks of intensive rehearsals, the now 16-strong group has staged the famous courtroom drama by Reginald Rose - in the German stage version by Horst Budjuhn.
The action takes place in a New York jury room, where twelve men have to decide the fate of a young defendant. What initially looks like a straightforward case quickly develops into an intense psychological chamber play about justice, doubt and the power of conviction.
Free admission! Donations for the "MannoG - Mann ohne Gewalt" project in Gelsenkirchen are requested afterwards. "MannoG - Mann ohne Gewalt" is a preventative education and counseling project in Gelsenkirchen aimed at boys, young men and male caregivers. The aim is to promote non-violent behavior, to critically reflect on gender roles and to accompany men on their way to responsible, respectful interaction with each other and with others. Through workshops, individual counseling and group work, "MannoG" offers a safe space for discussion, change and personal growth.
The theater project of Theatergruppe Bochum is part of the non-profit association from Bonn "Generation Zukunft e.V.". The association was founded in spring 2021 and grew out of an independent youth group. "Generation Zukunft e.V." is organized entirely by children, teenagers and young adults. It has already produced several musicals, poetry slams, music and dance projects as well as digital projects. In 2021, the association implemented projects at several locations in Germany for the first time. The focus of the projects is on the personal development of the participants and support in the implementation of the projects. The proceeds from the performances are always donated to social projects and organizations freely chosen by the project groups. The funding purposes are art and culture, as well as youth and elderly care. The project is funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the "2,000 x 1,000 euros for commitment" funding program.
This play is not only exciting theater, but also a plea for civil courage, empathy and social commitment.
