Autocrats are coming to power around the world, right-wing populist forces are gaining strength across Europe, and in Germany the AfD is achieving unprecedented levels of support: the warning cries about the disintegration of our liberal democracy are unmistakable. But how can we protect ourselves from the opponents of democratic values and institutions? While some uphold the majority principle and criticize the progressive juridification of our systems, others are calling for legal safeguards to protect minorities.
