With Jean Tardieu's "Lovers in the Underground", the Salier-Gymnasium's SAG.A theater group takes the audience into the pulsating and simultaneously alienating world of the Paris Métro. The premiere will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 7 pm in the Kulturhaus Schwanen. Further performances will follow on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4, both at 7 pm.
Métro poetry: a play with language and rhythm
Jean Tardieu's play is a kaleidoscope of urban life in which people come together on a platform, talk, talk past each other, pause and disappear again. The lack of communication becomes a game with conventions, language becomes rhythm. Scraps of words and incomplete sentences form an "organized chaos" in which the individual dissolves into the crowd. But in the midst of this chaos, the story of a nameless pair of lovers emerges, a hint of humanity in the anonymity of the big city.
"The Lovers in the Underground" is a timeless, topical play with plenty of wit and irony.
