Based on the classic novella by Papadiamantis and set on a remote Greek island around 1900, Hadoula, an elderly widow, has found a way to survive in a male-dominated society: Outwardly, she submits to life as a woman considered inferior; inwardly, however, she rebels against patriarchal society and decides to save the island's young girls from the fate of a woman's life.
