"Die neue deutsche Seltsamkeit " - Mit Fiona Sironic und Elias Hirschl

In the organizer's words:

From May 14, we will be regularly presenting literary chaos at the Schleuse Zwei music bar in the Bilker Bunker. As part of the series "The New German Strangeness", we are devoting ourselves to texts that are no longer content with depicting reality and instead explore the limits of what can be told. Wild genre mix meets vision of the future. Alternative reality collides with digitally influenced narrative form. Classifications are overcome and make room for deliberate confusion. In the texts presented, oceans disappear, dating apps become investigative tools and young women with vandalism become stars on the internet. We jump into the year 2130 as well as into an unprecedented past. After the readings and talks, the bar will remain open and various DJs will present the appropriate music program.

The guests of the new German weirdness on 03.07.2025 are:

Fiona Sironic (*1995 in Neuss) studied Language Arts, Creative Writing and Gender Studies in Hildesheim and Vienna, where she now lives as a freelance writer. She also gives workshops and deals with digital games in her journalistic writing. Sironic has received various prizes, scholarships and nominations for her literary texts. For example, she was nominated for the Wortmeldungen Förderpreis, won the Open Mike 2019 and received both the BMKÖS working and starting scholarship, was also a scholarship holder of the Klagenfurt Literature Course and the Kölner Schmiede and received one of the workshop scholarships as part of the German Prize for Nature Writing 2024 for an excerpt from her debut novel "Am Samstag gehen die Mädchen in den Wald und jagen Sachen in die Luft".

Elias Hirschl was born in Vienna in 1994. He is an author, musician, slam poet and writes for theater and radio. He was awarded the Reinhard Priessnitz Prize in 2020.
